The Franklin Community High School athletic department is excited to announce Brian Klem as its new varsity girls basketball coach.
Coach Klem has been involved in the Franklin girls basketball program for many years, serving at the youth, middle school and high school levels. Klem has spent 4 seasons as an assistant coach on the Grizzly Cubs’ varsity staff. He has also had multiple stints serving as a head coach at the middle school, most recently leading the 2026 7th-grade girls to an undefeated season.
He will be taking over for Mike Armstrong, who stepped down following 4 seasons at the helm. He led the Grizzly Cubs won two sectionals and one regional. This season, the Lady Cubs were 14-9 and finished runner-up in the Mid-State Conference.
Coach Klem commented, “As a lifelong Franklin resident and graduate of FCHS, I’m excited and thankful to get a chance to lead the girls basketball program. I’ve spent a lot of time helping build the youth teams in Franklin, so it’s important to me to build a culture that extends from youth through varsity. We are fortunate to have a lot of great youth coaches and players already in the system that will help reach the high expectations that we will set for the program.”
Klem’s hire was approved at the March 9 school board meeting.
