CBIS-Logo-1Custer Baker Intermediate School serves more than 725 students from Grades 5-6. The only intermediate school in the Franklin Community Schools system, we offer a broad and comprehensive understanding of knowledge and skills based on the Indiana Academic State Standards. These standards provide the master plan for learning.

Courses are required by the Indiana State Board of Education and necessary for the intellectual, physical, social and emotional growth of students.

The school is named after the late Custer Baker, who was a school superintendent in the county for 31 years. He graduated from Union High School (which later consolidated with Franklin Community Schools), Franklin College and Butler University.

Cheryl Moran l Franklin Community SchoolsWelcome to the Custer Baker Intermediate School webpage!  Custer Baker is the home of nearly 750 5th and 6th grade students- known as the CUBS!

The Custer Baker Cubs are actively engaged in learning.  We are continuing to grow our brains and our hearts through incredible instruction, creative learning activities, and by thinking of others and giving back to our community.

We work daily on developing character traits to set our Cubs up for success in the future.  We have had fun this year by doing our 3rd annual  Color Run, a Glow Party, many Chicago’s Pizza outings, a 6th-grade trip to the Columbus Youth Camp, and a 5th-grade trip to Biz town.

This year we continued Career Exploration, Health and Wellness, and Genius Hour in addition to the already varied docket of experiences for our Cubs.  Many students participate in extracurricular activities such as clubs and sports.

Joey, our therapy dog, has almost completed another year in the Den.  He helps us celebrate, de-escalate, and just makes our school a better place!

Counseling Services

Individual Counseling

Our counseling department implements brief solution-focused counseling designed to help students establish personal goals and develop future plans. We also work to meet students' immediate counseling needs, such as conflict resolution, student mental health, family changes, etc.

Group Counseling

Our counseling office provides small group counseling on topics such as anger management, anxiety, friendship, military family, new students and others determined by student needs.

Classroom Counseling Lessons

School counselors implement a variety of classroom counseling lessons throughout the school year. Lessons focus on academic planning, career exploration and personal-social development.

Student Advocacy

Our counseling office advocates on behalf of all students. This is achieved through active communication with parents and faculty. KIDS Team is often an avenue to provide intervention to students who may need additional support. We are committed to making a difference among children, families and the community.
