Amanda Ray Named a Top 3 Finalist for Indiana Teacher of the Year

Franklin Community Schools is proud to announce that Custer Baker Intermediate School math teacher Amanda Ray has been named one of the Top 3 finalists for the 2027 Indiana Teacher of the Year.

Ray’s selection places her among the state’s three finalists for one of Indiana’s highest honors for educators. She was initially selected as one of the Top 10 finalists before advancing to the Top 3 following a competitive statewide selection process recognizing outstanding teaching, leadership, and contributions to the education profession.

Ray was named the 2026 Franklin Community Schools Secondary Teacher of the Year, an honor recognizing her exceptional impact on students, colleagues, and the teaching profession.

As a math teacher at Custer Baker Intermediate School, Ray creates a classroom environment that encourages students to think deeply, persevere through challenges, and build confidence in their abilities. Her commitment to helping students become active participants in their learning is evident in her use of innovative instructional practices, including Building Thinking Classrooms.

“Amanda’s commitment to students, her passion for teaching, and her willingness to continually grow and share with others are what make this recognition so fitting,” said Dr. David Clendening. “She represents the very best of Franklin Community Schools, and we are incredibly proud to see her recognized among the top three educators in Indiana. We are excited to celebrate Amanda and all that she brings to our students, our staff, and our community.”
