The Franklin Community Schools Board of School Trustees is pleased to announce the appointment of David Yount as its newest board member. Yount was appointed to fill the vacancy left by Jake Sappenfield’s resignation on January 1, and his term will run through December 31, 2026. He brings extensive experience in law, board governance, and community engagement to the role.

Yount earned a bachelor’s degree from Hillsdale College and a juris doctorate from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law. He is currently a partner at Deppe Fredbeck & Yount, LLP.

“We want to thank all of the applicants for their interest in serving on the school board,” FCS School Board President Becky Nelson said. “Mr. Yount was selected based on his strong application, extensive professional experience, and thoughtful interview responses. He demonstrated a deep understanding of the educational challenges facing our school corporation and provided insightful strategies for addressing them. We are confident that his leadership and expertise will be valuable assets to the board and our community.”

“First, I would like to thank the members of the school board, Dr. Clendening, Dr. Worland, and the entire Franklin Community Schools administration for giving me this opportunity to serve alongside them as stewards of our schools,” David Yount said. “It is a great responsibility and one that I do not take lightly.  I would also like to thank my wife, Victoria, children, and the rest of my family for their support and encouragement to pursue this opportunity. Second, I will strive to be fiscally mindful of how the corporation’s funds are spent to ensure that we are responsibly using taxpayer dollars. I believe education is a blessing of inestimable value, and the presentation and distribution of learning is essential to our liberties. I hope that as a board, we will be able to furnish all students a literary, scientific, and vocational education that will develop their minds, stimulate intellectual curiosity, and foster personal growth through academic challenge.”

The board interviewed four candidates during a public meeting on January 21 and unanimously approved Yount’s appointment with a 4-0 vote at the public meeting on January 30.
