The Franklin Community High School FFA team of Thomas Gross, Chloe Malott, Lauren Sharp and Amelia Oaks placed third out of the 54 top teams in the Indiana State Soil Evaluation Contest on October 18 at Huntington University. Thomas placed fourth individually and Chloe placed seventh out of 193 contestants.

This awesome placing at state qualifies these four for the 2026 National Land Judging Contest in Oklahoma City in May.

The team of Connor Williams, Morgan Keith, Macie Keith and Emily Gross placed seventh in the very competitive State Master's Division.

The event is open to 4-H and FFA members and is designed to teach youth skills necessary in soil science and land use. Youth  evaluate a soil's properties and make land use recommendations for production agriculture and home site development. Soil Evaluation is an incredibly challenging contest that requires skill, memory, understanding of the natural lay of the land and problem solving skills.
