Creekside Elementary School and Union Elementary School were honored at the Indiana Department of Education’s 2026 Literacy Achievement Celebration held at the Indiana Statehouse. Both schools were recognized for outstanding literacy achievement and their commitment to student success.
Creekside Elementary School was recognized for achieving an impressive 95% IREAD passing rate, while Union Elementary School earned recognition for an outstanding accomplishment of 100% of students passing the IREAD assessment.
As part of the celebration, Dr. Mark Heiden was selected to present Creekside Elementary School’s story of accomplishment. During the event, he shared the stage with Indiana House Speaker Todd Huston and Indiana Secretary of Education Dr. Katie Jenner.
Representing Creekside at the Statehouse was Mrs. Julie Rowen, Creekside’s Literacy Coach, along with Dr. Clendening. Union Elementary School was represented by Mrs. Katie Smith and second-grade teacher Jennifer Small.
The recognition highlights the dedication and hard work of teachers, staff, students, and families. Their commitment to excellence in literacy continues to make Franklin Community Schools an outstanding place for students to learn, grow and succeed.
