Franklin Community Schools is pleased to announce that Colin Mothersead has been named the new Aquatics Director. The FCS Board of School Trustees approved the recommendation at the June 9 meeting. Mothersead brings experience in swim coaching and aquatic program development, including six years with both Franklin Community High School and the Franklin Regional Swim Team. He will continue to serve as a coach in the swim program, a role in which he has made a lasting impact.

A Purdue University graduate with a degree in Electrical Engineering, Mothersead worked in engineering and logistics before redirecting his career.

Along with his passion for the sport, he also has experience assisting with facility renovation projects, fundraising, and community outreach programs like the Franklin Swim School, which provides swim safety and instruction to hundreds of local families.

"I am incredibly excited to take this new step in contributing to Franklin Community Schools and the world of Franklin Swimming and Diving," Mothersead said. "Swimming helped me find purpose and friendships as a kid, and the opportunity to be a part of that for future generations is a dream job. Franklin is a special place with some really incredible people, and I am blessed to work in a place that really feels like home."

Executive Director of Athletics Bill Doty added, "Colin's experiences as a competitive swimmer and as a coach obviously set him up as a top candidate for this position, but it is his complete understanding of pool facility management that will serve him well in this new role."

Varsity Swim Coach Zach DeWitt echoed the sentiment, noting, “Colin’s desire for self-improvement, along with a keen intellect and high standards, will help our community promote water safety, build programming, and expand access to the world of aquatics.”

Franklin Community Schools welcomes Mothersead into this expanded leadership role, confident that his vision and commitment will ensure a bright future for Franklin Swimming and Diving.

He replaces Cole Zook’s move to Franklin Community Middle School as Assistant Principal.
