If they keep this up much longer, the 2016-17 boys basketball team might be the latest edition of the Cardiac Kids. On back to back evenings the Grizzly Cubs used 4th quarter buzzer beaters to win or extend a game to overtime. The end result was two wins and a 4-0 record early in the season.
On Friday night, the Grizzly Cubs travelled to Greenwood looking to pick up a second conference win in as many weeks. The Woodmen had no plans on making it easy for the Grizzly Cubs. Saturday night, Cory Richards stepped into the spotlight. The teams were tied at the half. Late in the game, Hauser hit freethrows to take a 66-69 lead with less than 10 seconds to play. Franklin ran a play to perfection allowing Cory Richards to hit an open three from several feet beyond the arch, sending the game into overtime tied at 69. In the overtime period the Grizzly Cubs. With a two point lead late in the game the Grizzly Cubs were able to get a stop and a transition lay up to seal the 82-78 victory. Richards scored 21 points on the night and Rockey led the team with 22.The Grizzly Cubs are now 4-0 heading into a Saturday evening matchup at Shelbyville. The girls varsity game will be played at 6 at the same time as the boys JV game. At 8:00, the boys varsity will play the Golden Bears while the girls JV game is played.
