Tuesday evening the Grizzly Cubs played host to the Columbus North Bulldogs. Franklin managed to keep a small lead at the end of a back and forth first half 27-25. To start the third quarter the Bulldogs stormed out of the gates to take a 27-34 lead. The Grizzly Cubs battled back and a last second three pointer at the end of the third quarter gave the Cubs a 1 point lead entering the game's final stanza.
The Lady Cub Swimming and Diving team finished off another great campaign with a 12th place finish in the IHSAA State Finals. The Lady Cubs advanced athletes to the final round in 10 of the 12 events contested and had state medalists in 4 of those events.
The Franklin wrestling team had two individuals compete in the IHSAA Semi-State wrestling tournament at the Ford Center in Evansville Saturday. Both Franklin wrestlers placed in the tournament advancing them to the IHSAA state finals At Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis this Friday and Saturday. Franklin finished in 9th place as a team scoring 37 points.
The Grizzly Cubs basketball team entered the last third of their season with a rare one-game week. The opponent was Thursday at FCHS was the Brown County Eagles. The Grizzly Cubs have had a string of victories against the Eagles, but on Thursday the Eagles did not make it easy on the hosts.
The Franklin girls swimming and diving team claimed the 2017 Sectional championship in dominating fashion. The Lady Cubs won all 11 swimming events on their way to scoring 549 points, easily outdistancing second place Center Grove by 194 points.
The Wrestling team is sending two competitors to the Evansville Semi-State next weekend. Burk VanHorn bounced back from his first loss of the season last weekend to win the Regional title and Jake Moore followed up his Sectional title with a Regional runner-up finish.
On Friday evening girls tennis coach Rusty Hughes was inducted into the Indiana High School Tennis Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
The Franklin Swimming and Diving teams wrapped up their regular season last week highlighted by a Senior Night victory over the Perry Meridian Falcons. In the regular season finale for the Lady Cubs, they dominated the Falcons 137-48 while the boys were also able to roll to a 113-72 victory.
On December 9, the Grizzly Cubs got a road victory at Greenwood on a last second shot. The Grizzly Cubs had to make the trip to Greenwood a second time in the first round of the County Tournament and the luck would not be on their side.
